Your steps


When you plan to do work on an existing building or build on land, you need to take steps.

The Law defines the works subject to prior planning permission.In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Land law authorizations:

The building permit

For constructions or reconstructions:
• Example: individual houses, isolated constructions ≥ 20 m² / swimming pools
For extensions to existing constructions:
• Example: additional room / veranda / garage ≥ 40 m²
To modify a room:
• Example: a garage transformed into a living room


The use of an architect is mandatory when the floor area or footprint after work is ≥ 150 m².

The prior declaration

For work not subject to a building permit:
Buildings ≤ 20m², extension ≤ 40m², swimming pools not permitted
For the replacement of:

Frames, windows, doors and patio doors ...
For renovations, installations or modifications of fencing, gate, wicket and any modification of exterior appearance.
For the installation of:
solar panels


The land divisions with a view to building in zone U and in all cases in zones A and N must be declared in advance. The file must be compiled by an expert surveyor.

The files

Cerfa prints can be collected from the Town Hall or downloaded:


For building permits.

For certain special cases.

For prior declarations.


The documents to be attached to the building permit files and prior declarations:

Depending on the list of documents attached to the request:

• The site plan (this is the city plan on which the project address is materialized)
• The ground plan of the constructions quoted on a scale of 1 / 100th, 1 / 200th or 1 / 50th
• A notice describing the project
• Plans of facades and roofs before and after the work on a scale of 1 / 100th, 1 / 200th or 1 / 50th
• Pre-project photos: with close environment and distant environment
• Post-project photos by integrating the project into the existing one
Note: all the photos presented must be numbered the shooting points and angles of the graphic documents must be recorded on the ground plan.

The files must be submitted to the Town Planning Department of the City of Courtry in four copies. (additional copies will be necessary if the project requires the opinion of external services).
